About the package

Travel Itinerary

Upon arrival at FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport in Iquitos before noon, we will proceed to Bellavista Nanay port pier to commence our journey into the Amazon Rainforest.

Iquitos, Peru, is the gateway to the Amazon Rainforest, often referred to as the “Lungs of the Earth.” The Amazon and its tributaries, such as the Nanay and Itaya rivers, traverse the forest, providing essential transportation and sustenance. Iquitos offers an unforgettable Amazonian adventure, serving as the ultimate access point to the untamed beauty of the Amazon.

We will board a speedboat along the Amazon River. During the boat ride, we observe the remarkable convergence of the Amazon River’s brown turbid waters with the dark waters of the Nanay River. Enjoy the impressive jungle landscapes and the rustic small houses of the riverside towns. We will have a brief stopover at La Isla de los Monos, a family social enterprise focused on conserving and protecting endangered monkey species in the Northern Amazon. The goal is to educate guests on the effort to reintegrate monkeys and their survival in the wild.

After a 60-minute boat ride, we will arrive at the Lodge, followed by check-in and a lunch featuring Amazonian cuisine.

In the afternoon, we will embark on our first excursion: a jungle hike into the Yanamono primary rainforest reserve, lasting approximately two hours and accompanied by expert guides. We will learn about several flora species, such as heliconia flowers, medicinal plants, and giant trees. You will also have the chance to sight several bird species, such as the Turkey Vulture (Cathartes Aura), Black Fronted Nanbird (Monasa-Atia), and we may observe families of small monkeys, including marmosets (Saguinus fusicollis), the Titi (Callicebus Mollock Mollock), and the Squirrel monkey (Saimiri Boliviense).

Return to the lodge for rest and relaxation, and be captivated by your first must-not-miss Amazon Sunset.

As evening falls, we will take a boat ride along one of the Amazon River’s tributaries for an exciting night in the jungle. With no lights, the jungle flora and fauna sparkle along the river’s edge. If it is a clear night, you will see the bright moonlight and observe the stars and constellations, with falling stars being quite common in the area. We will then return to the Lodge to rest and prepare for an early start the next day.

We will start our day with an early excursion at 4:30 AM to enjoy the most beautiful sunrise in this unique landscape.

Next, we will head for bird watching during their morning feeding time, looking out for birds such as the Tuki (Jacana Jacana), Ringed Kingfisher (Ceryle-Torquata), and Black-Collared Hawk (Busarellus nigricollis), among others. Thereafter, you will return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast.

After a short rest, we will visit a riverside village to see an indigenous tribe of the Yaguas community. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn about their way of life along the Amazon River, including their homes, school, church, and shops. Interact with the people, learn their fishing and farming techniques, observe their customs and traditions, and gain insight into their unaffected and austere way of living. Return to the lodge for lunch.

Next, we will take a walk to the Avatar Canopy Park, which is 35 meters high, to appreciate a spectacular view of the massive jungle and then enjoy the thrilling “ZIPLINE” through the suspension bridge, climbing mesh, and rappelling, an adrenaline-pumping experience! The maximum weight allowed is 100kg.

In the evening, we offer the option of a Night Hike. Embark on an enchanting evening trek within the secure periphery of the Lodge. Witness the entrancing transformation from daytime to a nocturnal atmosphere. As you adjust to the dark environment, appreciate how the rainforest takes on a very different character and become aware of the nocturnal jungle animals’ existence and habits. It is the best time to see stunning tree frogs, shy snakes, and other rainforest creatures that only come out at night. Notice a range of entirely distinctive fauna from the day as you listen to the magical sounds of insects, birds, jungle cats, and night owls. After a 30-minute hike, we return to the Lodge for Dinner.

We will start the day with breakfast and then head to Lupuna and/or Ceiba Walk, a walk to the gigantic and monumental tree, discovering the density and charm of the Amazon jungle along the way.

We will then proceed to the most remarkable experience of the Amazon: a Private Water Flight. Imagine flying above the Amazon Rainforest in a private seaplane, taking in breathtaking views of the world’s most incredible forest from a completely new perspective. You will lift off from a private dock and embark on an unforgettable hour of adventure. As you fly over the massive rainforest, you will spot beautiful rivers, tributaries, and vibrant wildlife, with the thrilling experience of watching a sunset from the air.

We will then embark on a Native Fishing expedition to one of the small tributaries of the Amazon River. Learn the local fishing techniques, and for the daring, you can try fishing for piranhas using artisanal methods. During this excursion, we will also have the opportunity to look out for the Pink River Dolphin (Inia Geoffrensis).

Return to the Lodge for an overnight stay.

Enjoy a delicious breakfast before we board the boat towards a lake on Yanamono Island where you will glimpse the Giant Water Lily, the Victoria Regia, the “Queen of water lilies.” Now renamed Victoria Amazonica, these native flora in the shallow waters of the Amazon River basin are mostly found in oxbow lakes and bayous. We may see some flowers that are white as they bloom on the first night and some that have turned pink on the second night after blooming. They can grow up to 40 cm in diameter and are pollinated by scarab beetles. Victoria Amazonica is well known for its huge circular leaves, often pictured with a small child sitting at the center to display their size and strength. Return to the Lodge for lunch.

After checking out from the hotel, we will transfer to Iquitos. We will spend the rest of the day exploring the marvel and beauty of Iquitos after checking into a hotel and resting. We will start at the Plaza de Armas, the main square of Iquitos, to admire the stunning Amazonas Theater, a classic example of Victorian-era architecture. Next, we will visit the Cathedral of Iquitos (Catedral de Iquitos), a beautiful Catholic church with impressive stained-glass windows. We will then explore the Museum of the Amazon (Museo de la Amazonía), which showcases the region’s rich cultural and natural history. Finally, we will visit the lively Mercado de San Juan, a bustling marketplace filled with colorful fruits, vegetables, and local handicrafts. After dinner, return to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.

After breakfast, we will check out from the hotel. Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time in the morning for last-minute souvenir shopping before we drop you off at FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport.
