Our journey commences with a pick-up at FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport in Iquitos before noon. We then proceed to Bellavista Nanay port pier to embark on a scenic voyage to the Amazon Rainforest.
Iquitos, Peru, serves as the gateway to the Amazon Rainforest, a breathtakingly vast and vibrant ecosystem often referred to as the “Lungs of the Earth.” The Amazon and its tributaries, like the Nanay and Itaya rivers, crisscross the forest, providing transportation and sustenance. Iquitos offers an unforgettable Amazonian adventure, the ultimate gateway to the Amazon’s untamed beauty.
We board one of the speedboats along the Amazon River. During the boat ride, we will observe the noticeable convergence of the brown turbid waters of the Amazon River with the dark waters of the Nanay River. Enjoy the impressive jungle landscapes with the rustic small houses of the riverside towns.
We will have a short stopover at La Isla de los Monos, a family social enterprise focused on conserving and protecting endangered monkey species in the Northern Amazon. The goal is to enlighten rainforest guests on the effort to reintegrate monkeys and their survival in the wild.
After a 60-minute boat ride, we arrive at the Lodge, followed by check-in and an Amazonian cuisine lunch.
In the afternoon, we begin our first excursion: a jungle hike into the Yanamono primary rainforest reserve, approximately two hours long and accompanied by expert guides. We will learn about several flora species such as wild flowers, medicinal plants, and giant trees. Additionally, we will have the chance to sight several bird species like the Turkey Vulture (Cathartes Aura), Black Fronted Nunbird (Monasa-Atia), and we will be able to view a family of small monkeys such as marmosets (Saguinus fusicollis), the Titi (Callicebus Mollock Mollock), and the Squirrel monkey (Saimiri Boliviense).
We then return to the lodge for rest and relaxation, ensuring to witness the mesmerizing Amazon Sunset.
As evening falls, we will take a boat ride along one of the Amazon River’s tributaries for an exciting night in the jungle. With no artificial lights, the jungle flora and fauna sparkle along the river’s edge. If it is a clear night, you will see the brilliant moonlight, as well as observe the stars and constellations, and possibly some falling stars, which are quite common in the area.
We then return to the Lodge to rest and prepare for an early start the next day.
Our day starts with an early excursion at 4:30 AM to enjoy the most beautiful sunrise in this unique landscape.
We then proceed to Bird Watching to observe the birds during their morning feeding time. We will be looking out for birds such as the Tuki (Jacana Jacana), Ringed Kingfisher (Ceryle-Torquata), Black-Collared Hawk (Busarellus nigricollis), among others.
Thereafter, we return to the lodge for a hearty and energizing breakfast.
After a brief rest, head to a riverside village to see an indigenous tribe of the Yaguas community. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn about and see their way of life along the Amazon River, including their homes, school, church, and shops. Interact with the people, learn their techniques of fishing and farming, observe their customs and traditions, and gain insight into their unaffected and austere way of living. We then return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, we set off on a Native Fishing expedition to one of the small tributaries of the Amazon River. Learn the local techniques of fishing and, for the more adventurous, try fishing for Piranhas. This is an artisanal method by the indigenous communities of the area with the most convenient instruments.
During this excursion, we will have the opportunity to look out for the Pink River Dolphin (Inia Geoffrensis). We then return to the Lodge for lunch.
Next, we will take a walk to the Avatar Canopy Park, which is 35 meters high, to appreciate a spectacular view of the massive jungle and then enjoy the thrilling “ZIPLINE” through the suspension bridge, climbing mesh, and rappelling, an adrenaline-pumping experience! The maximum weight allowed is 100kg.
In the evening, we offer the option of a Night Hike. Embark on an enchanting evening trek within the secure periphery of the Lodge. Witness the entrancing transformation from daytime to a nocturnal atmosphere. As you adjust to the dark environment, appreciate how the rainforest takes on a very different character and become aware of the nocturnal jungle animals’ existence and habits. It is the best time to see stunning tree frogs, shy snakes, and other rainforest creatures that only come out at night. Notice a range of entirely distinctive fauna from the day as you listen to the magical sounds of insects, birds, jungle cats, and night owls. After a 30-minute hike, we return to the Lodge for Dinner.
Our day starts with breakfast, followed by a walk to Lupuna and/or Ceiba Walk, a trek to the gigantic and monumental tree, discovering in its path the density of the Amazon jungle and its charms.
We then check out from the hotel, followed by a transfer to Iquitos.
We spend the rest of the day exploring the marvel and beauty of Iquitos after checking in to a hotel and rest.
We start at the Plaza de Armas, the main square of Iquitos, to admire the stunning Amazonas Theater, a classic example of Victorian-era architecture.
Next, we head to the Cathedral of Iquitos (Catedral de Iquitos), a beautiful Catholic church with impressive stained-glass windows.
We visit the Museum of the Amazon (Museo de la Amazonía), which showcases the region’s rich cultural and natural history.
We then explore the lively Mercado de San Juan, a bustling marketplace filled with colorful fruits, vegetables, and local handicrafts.
After dinner, we return to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.
Following breakfast, we check out from the hotel. Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time in the morning for last-minute souvenir shopping.
We then provide a drop-off at FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport.
